In an interview for Corriere della Sera of some years ago, the historical #concierge Giovanni Santangeletta affirmed: “You must have the city in your hands, that’s the only way. Requests are continuous and sometimes hard to solve. A ticket for #LaScala which is fully booked, a place at the stadium an hour before the kickoff, a doctor immediately, five pair of shoes for #Cannes Festival, an #Armani Jacket for a gala dinner, a flight to #Rome for tomorrow, call #Alitalia…find a way… So many requests”. Impossible? “Almost impossible”. The Teatro Olimpico is one of Vicenza’s artistic wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This theatre is the absolute climax of the creativity of one of the greatest Italian architects, Andrea Palladio, who was openly inspired by the Roman theatres described by Vitruvius. Palladian #Basilica is a public building facing onto the Piazza dei Signori in #Vicenza. Its name is linked to Andrea #Palladio, who redesigned it, adding the famous loggias with serliana openings in white marble to the existing Gothic building. The building on which Palladio worked was the Palazzo della Ragione, built in #Gothic style in the mid-fifteenth century. The upper floor is entirely taken up by an enormous hall with no intermediate supports, where the Council of the Four Hundred met. The copper-lined, inverted ship’s-hull roof was inspired by that of the #PalazzoDellaRagione in #Padua. In the neighborhood (“sestiere”) of Cannaregio you can find one of the oldest Jewish ghettos of all Europe. The Jewish community has been found in Venice since the 12th Century, but during the 14th Century they were deprived of housing in the city and many moved to the nearby areas until a special area – called Cannaregio ghetto – was defined for them to live in.
